Tried two different dongles labeled “eblue mini nova” from same manufacturer, CSR.

Both used to work on this PC although intermittent problem in finding. Now cannot discover any Bluetooth device, tried different devices.

Installed Windows Mobile Device centre just in case it helped.

A strikingly good point about Bluetooth Driver Installer is that before making any changes to your system, the app automatically creates a restore point. You can use Windows System Restore to revert any changes that have been made to your PC.Bluetooth Driver Installer is a reliable app, if the WinDir%infbth.inf file is corrupted in some way then Bluetooth Driver Installer will patch it, thereby repairing any errors you may have. The app is based on a widely known method of patching the%WinDir%infbth.inf file. The app works for most, but not all, Bluetooth adapters; whether that be USB dongles or built-in adapters. Bluetooth This small app can install generic Microsoft drivers for your Bluetooth adapter. This is useful if anything goes wrong.

Ran Troubleshooter, updated drivers, already latest installed.

Device Manager shows: Generic Bluetooth radio is working properly. Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator is working properly

My PC runs 64-bit Windows 7. This adapter is OK, but if you are on Windows 7 or Win7 x64 like myself, it requires patience and some technical knowledge to make it behave properly. Initially I thought the dongle was defective - I had plugged it into a USB port on the chassis but the adapter would not detect. I moved it to an open port on a USB hub and then my PC detected it. Despite following the instructions on the included CD, the adapter would not properly pair my bluetooth headset. It would create an entry for the headset, but then would gray the entry out as if it had been turned off. I tried another headset from a different brand, and encountered the same problem. I tried other troubleshooting activities, rebooted the PC multiple times and became very frustrated. When I noticed that the adapter driver under Device Manager was 'Microsoft Generic Bluetooth' I got a hunch that the CSR drivers had not installed properly. I went back to the driver CD. Rather than running the SETUP.EXE in the root folder, I noticed there was a directory for 'x64'. Running the setup from there, I uninstalled the stack, rebooted, then ran the setup program from the x64 directory again. This time the adapter was marked as 'CSR Bluetooth Radio' and the driver showed Cambridge Silicon Radio Limited. Now I was able to successfully, properly pair my bluetooth headset and it properly shows as an available audio playback device.
The range is decent, I'm able to go most of the way across my house before the signal starts to drop. For the price I paid I can't fault the hardware, it's the driver installation that made things difficult on my 64-bit Windows 7 install.
