When to Renew Your KS Driver's License

The length of time your Kansas driver's license is valid will depend on your age:

  • Less than 21 years old: Expires on your 21st birthday.
    • To get more information about renewing when you're less than 21 years old, visit the Kansas DMV website.
  • Between 21 to under 65 years old: 6 years.
  • 65 years old or older: 4 years.

You can renew your KS driver's license up to 1 year before it expires, unless you are younger than 21 years old. If you are younger than 21 years old, you must wait until your 21st birthday to complete the renewal.

Expired Driver's License

If you fail to renew your driver's license on or before the expiration date, you'll be charged a $1 fee and you may be required to take your examinations again. In addition, you may receive a traffic ticket if a law enforcement officer catches you driving on an expired license.

Renew Your Kansas Driver's License

The Kansas DMV will mail you your renewal notice at least 30 days before your KS driver's license expires. If you don't receive a renewal form, however, it's still your responsibility to make sure your license is renewed in a timely fashion.

In Person

To renew your KS driver's license inperson, you'll need to visit your local full-service DMV driver's license office and bring:

  • Proof of your identity, such as your expiring KS driver's license.
  • Your Social Security number (SSN).
  • Proof of your Kansas residency.

If you would like to upgrade to a Real ID, you will also need to bring a birth certificate or a valid passport.

General Information

Customers must renew their Florida driver license or ID card every eight years. The expiration date is listed on the credential. Florida driver license and ID card holders may renew their credential up to 18 months in advance of the expiration date.

Drivers can replace their driver license or ID card prior to its expiration if the credential is lost, stolen or they need to make an update. The following may require a replacement credential.

  • If there is a change of address, Florida driver license or ID card holders have 30 days to update their address on the credential.
  • If there is a name change, Florida driver license or ID card holders must update their name with the Social Security Administration prior to updating their name on the credential and they must present an original or certified court order of marriage certificate when applying to change the name on their driver license or ID card.
  • If a driver license or ID card is lost or stolen.
  • If a customer wishes to add or update a designation or other information listed on the credential.

    • Florida offers a one-time online convenience renewal for customers. Visit GoRenew.com to see if you are eligible
    • Customers who are not REAL ID compliant (look for the gold star on the driver license or ID card) must go into an office to become REAL ID compliant.
  • Update the address on your driver license or ID card.
  • Replace a lost or stolen credential.

To renew or replace a credential online, the department must verify a customer’s Social Security number. If the department is unable to verify, the customer must follow up with the Social Security Administration.
